2012 has seen a huge increase in the number of families and children participating in Kids' Haven. It is our privilege to serve our area children and families and an honor to speak at local organizations on behalf of our grieving children.
Kristin Dabney, our Director, was invited to speak at several events in December to share what Kids' Haven does, who we serve and what our needs are. Through attending Leadership Breakfasts for all Elementary, Middle and High School Principals of Lynchburg City Schools, we were able to introduce (or reintroduce) our service to the schools and provide resource materials to each school.
Kids Haven is also grateful to a charity circle in Lynchburg that invited Kristin to speak in December. A group of woman have a lovely tradition of choosing to have lunch as a group each December, learn about a local charity and give individual gifts to the charity, all in lieu of giving each other presents. What a gift to our town! We were very privileged to share our program with these 40 women.
Central Virginia Community Services invited us to come and present our program to their therapists and staff. CVCS's mission is to support and promote the health, independence and self-worth of individuals and families in Central Virginia by providing a continuum of community-based prevention, early intervention, aftercare, and psycho-social rehabilitation services.
15 years ago, the Junior League of Lynchburg was instrumental in creating and financing the birth of Kids' Haven. These fine women have agreed to rekindle our relationship. We presented our program at their January meeting. They have graciously offered to provide dinners for our February group nights. Many thanks.
