Local Grief Resources

We receive many inquiries about what additional area grieving resources exist. We've compiled this list to help you, your relative, your neighbor, your clients, students, patients. If you are aware of other area groups, please contact us and we will be happy to share them.  Many area funeral homes offer support groups to the families with whom they have worked. Additionally, many churches have groups for members of their congregations.  


PASSAGES THROUGH GRIEF

A group for those who have had loss - death, divorce, relationship strain, health issues. Learn to understand and cope with grief. Bring hope back to your life.

A JOURNEY TOWARD HOPE AND HEALING 

Centra's Hospice is hosting this educational and supportive group for adults who have experienced the death of a loved one.  At least three months has to have passed since the death. For more information call 434-200-3204 or hospicebereavementcounselors@centrahealth.com.


THE MOTHERHOOD COLLECTIVE

A peer-to-peer support group for women experiencing infertility, miscarriage and child loss. A safe environment for conversation. Helping you understand you are not alone and that there IS support on this journey. Finding help, and encouragement for this road we walk.

GRIEFSHARE

A Christian based support group for people grieving the death of a loved one. Many other life situations bring deep grief, such a loved one who is dying, estrangement. If you are struggling with a not due to a death, GriefShare is not designed to meet your grief needs for healing.

COMPASSIONATE FRIENDS 

A self-help organization offering friendship, understanding, and hope to bereaved families that have experienced the death of a child. If you and your family have experienced the loss of a child, grandchild or sibling, they can help you find the support, and healing to work through your grief. This group meets the third Monday of each month at 7 pm at the Lodge of the Fisherman, 4415 Boonsboro Road (on the grounds of Camp Kum-Ba-Yah). The phone number is 434-221-3273.

COMFORT ZONE CAMP 

A free bereavement camp that transforms the lives of children who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, or primary caregiver. The weekend camps include programs and age-based support groups that break the emotional isolation grief often brings. Comfort Zone Camps are offered to children and are held year-round across the Country. Our local camp is held in Richmond.
